Cooler Days, Spanish Mackerel, and Kings on the Move
Topsail Island - Pender, NC
Well, the bite was a little slower yesterday than the past couple of trips, but we still found the Spanish. There are some nice sized fish in the mix too! This was a half-day trip I donated to Pender County Ducks Unlimited for their banquet, and I know these guys have been waiting a minute to get the time to take it. They had great timing, though, as the seas were pretty slick, and even when the wind picked up, it was about as nice a day as you could ask for. The bonus was the nice, cool weather. It's so good to fish all day and not wind up soaked through with sweat. This is my favorite time to fish, I think! Anyway, I figure with the cooler nights we'll see a few more weeks of good nearshore fishing for Spanish, and the big kings ought to be moving through too. Once the nearshore water cools, we'll have to run a little deeper to get the kings... and that'll be it for our season, barring an exceptional day to run to the Gulf Stream. So if you're thinking about getting out there, now's a great time to do it! Just hit us up, and let's make it happen!
